Short version: WattLens runs almost entirely in your browser. Your bill amount and home details never leave your device during analysis. We only receive data you explicitly submit (e.g., feedback).
1. What data we collect
Data you provide voluntarily
- Feedback submissions: name (optional), email (optional), rating, message, province
- All feedback is timestamped with the submission date and time
Data stored locally in your browser
- Home profile: province, home type, sq ft, occupants, heating type

localStorage— never sent to our servers - You can clear it any time by clearing your browser data
Automatically collected data
- Standard web server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) via our hosting provider
- User agent string attached to feedback submissions for debugging
2. How we use your data
- Feedback: to improve the estimation engine, fix bugs, and prioritise features
- Server logs: for security monitoring and performance analysis
- We do not sell, share, or monetise your personal data
- We do not run advertising or tracking pixels
3. Third-party services
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com): We request historical temperature data using your province's approximate coordinates. No personal data is transmitted — only a latitude/longitude and date range.
- Google Fonts: Used to load the Inter typeface. Google may log the request per their own privacy policy.
- Hosting provider (Vercel): Standard infrastructure logs apply.
4. Data retention
- Feedback submissions: retained for up to 2 years for product improvement
- Server logs: retained for 30 days
- Your local profile: persists until you clear browser storage
5. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request deletion of any feedback submission you submitted
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Withdraw consent at any time

6. Canadian privacy law
WattLens is operated in Canada and is subject to PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act). We collect only the minimum personal information necessary for the stated purposes.
7. Children's privacy
WattLens is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. The effective date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance.
